Q: When someone asks you to pray for them, what is the best and proper way to 'pray' for them?

Rabbi Shlomo Z: Firstly there is a section in the Amidah (Silent Prayer), in the section of "Refaenu"

that deals with healing of every sick person, (listen to audio for exact place in Hebrew), in that prayer we can add our own suplication to Hashem specifically mentioning the name of the person and his mothers name (i.e. "Name" ben/bat "Mothers Name"), make sure to pray to Hashem that there is a Refuah Shelema (Complete Recovery).

Second best way to ask for recovery of someone is to read a section of Tehilim (Psalms), and before reciting this section one should have in mind that they are specifically reciting the Tehilim for the recovery of the person. It is also advisable to even do a Misvah for the sake of a person, like for example giving a Sedaka (Charity). Another recomended way is to ask others to pray for the person as well, especially a trully righteous person in which they can use their merit to suplicate to Hashem.
