Wearing Sisit Out? |
|
|
|
Q: Why do Sepharadim wear Sisit inside the pants? Is it kabalistic? Fear of persecution? or both? Is there anything wrong with wearing them out?
Rabbi Zargari: The reason why we wear sisit inside is indeed kabalistically derived. It is best to preserve our minhag of wearing sisit inside
; however, there’s nothing hallachicly wrong with wearing the sisit out if someone truly wishes to do so. |

Q: how is it that spardim tuck in their tzisiyot when the torah specifically says that we should use them as reminders? isnt it that defeating?
Rabbi Lauffer (of Ohr Sameach)
A:The verse in the Shema says 'ureitem otam', that tzitzit should be visible. There are is an opinion that this means that one should be aware of them at all times, however, most Ashkenazi authorities are of the opinion that this should be taken literally. The custom among the Sephardim as Rav Ovadiah Yosef writes is not to wear them out despite the fact that the Beis Yosef rules that one should wear the Tallit Kattan over the clothes, see also Tzitz Eliezer volume 13: 5.

There is a wonderful sefer that just came out on the laws of tzitzit for Sephardim in English. It's called Tzel Heharim, and it's published by Feldheim. www.Feldheim.com. It's written by Rabbi Hertzel Hillel Yitzhak.
