With standing room only, last week’s “Why Marry Jewish?” event, sponsored by ten different Jewish-Persian youth organizations, was a true success. The audience was comprised of a wide array of Jews from different religious backgrounds and age groups.
Although the event was targeted for the Persian Jewish youth, many married couples and teenagers were seen in the audience.
The guest speaker for the event was Doron Kornbluth, author of Why Marry Jewish? an acclaimed book dedicated to explaining “surprising reasons for Jews to marry Jews”. With his non-confrontational rationalistic approach, he captured the audience’s attention for over 2 hours, with a question-and-answer session that followed. After the lecture, many audience members crowded around the speaker to ask their more personal questions.
Mr. Kornbluth gave an inspiring presentation revealing the potential consequences of intermarriage and the many advantages of marrying within Judaism. One audience member, who was undergoing a difficult ordeal in regards to marrying a non-Jew, commented that the decision to end an inter-faith relationship became clearer after listening to the lecture. Many others who had no question of intermarrying, yet had doubts into the rational reasons for not marrying outside Judaism, felt more comfortable and aware of the problems that arise in inter-faith couples.

This event was truly historical in that so many organizations decided to sponsor the effort. The event organizers are hopeful to have several of these community wide collaborative lectures throughout the year. I am very happy to see such a program was a success I hope you will be able to put more programs like this. The more we become united the stronger we will be and the more lives we can touch. I am sad that I am not in LA to participate.
