On January 26, 2006, perhaps for the first time ever, about two dozen young Persian Jews from Los Angeles, New York and London met in Jerusalem to learn Torah to honor their home communities.
This group of young Persian Jews from Los Angeles and New York had a dream to build their lives on the foundations of Torah study and connection to the land of Israel. To realize this dream, they have taken time from their busy lives to learn Jewish law and philosophy in Jerusalem. When they came to Israel, they formed a community to study once a month together. They call their group “The King's Gate” because Mordechai is referred to in many places in the Book of Esther as the concerned Jew who sits, in anticipation of G-d's providence, “at the King's gate.” This phrase has a double meaning of the gate of king Ahasuerus and the gate of the King of Kings – G-d. The name also alludes to Jerusalem – the place where the group meets and the point of The subject of study is the Book of Esther – the epic record of how Mordechai and Esther saved the world Jewish community by reintroducing religious ethics and spirituality to their people. The group also studies the intricate and beautiful laws of the holiday of Purim. There newsletter is a compilation of Torah insights and ideas that the group shared with each other at their monthly learning meetings. The purpose of this learning – to revitalize the Persian Jewish community through Torah study and community outreach. Their message back to their friends and family in America – it is a blessing to begin life learning Torah in the holy land. They were addressed by Rabbi David Zargari of the Torat Hayim synagogue in Los Angeles at the first meeting. Rabbi Zargari offered words of encouragement and shared his views on Persian Jewry today and in the future. | Navid and Negar Akhamzadeh Ohr Somayach Navid and Malka Ashoori Midrash Shmuel Pouyan Eliyahoo Barzivand Ohr Somayach Reuven Gidanian Torat Moshe Matityahu Hedvat Ohr Somayach Zechariah Pedram and Orly Javaheri Ohr Somayach Rafael Zerovabeli Midrash Shmuel | Jubin and Natalie Meraj Midrash Shmuel Binyamin and Shira Roshanshad Kollel Tiferet Yitzchak Sammy Saidian Ohr Somayach Dr. Daniel Tsadik Professor, Hebrew University Moshe and Leah Yadegar Chofetz Chaim Bijan Rafael and Natalie Zangan Ohr Somayach | |
