Jews of Iran: The Film  by: Ramin Farahani

Click to view more picturesThe Jewish settlement in Iran dates back to 2700 years. The Islamic Revolution of 1979 resulted in the departure of many Jews from the country. This film concentrates on Jews living in Iran presently, with an eye on recent historic developments, particularly Tehran, Shiraz, and Esfahan.

In Tehran, young and old Jews speak about different kinds of discrimination. However, there are also positive aspects, such as a close friendship between two tolerant Muslim and Jewish families.
There is a strong and responsive bond between the Jewish community. A lonely elderly woman from the old Jewish neighborhood of Tehran is treated for free at the Jewish hospital.
In Isfahan, we witness the love and passion that the main characters have developed for the place they live in. Soleiman Sassoon is a Jewish artist who finds inspiration in Iranian art and Islamic architecture.

In Shiraz, the film focuses more on an espionage case against the Jews. Parallel to this, we follow a young Jewish boy who is interested in computers and music. The film ends with a prayer before the Jewish New Year at a synagogue in Tehran.

Saw 'Jews of Iran' at the Jewish Film Festival in San Francisco area, really great film! The audience (many not persian) were fascinated to see how Jews live in Iran.
Hope there will be more showing in the San Francisco area, perhaps at UC Berkeley?

This is great film, I have memories of all those synagogues and streets. I hope the condition of the Iranian Jews in Iran becomes better and more freedom, Amen.

Thank you so much

It was amazing. Full of reality. I was almost forgot how I was living there ten years ago. They are our brothers and sisters. We should do something for them. They need our help. Such a touchihg film.

This is an amazing documentary. It is very educational mostly for people who immigrated long ago.I attended that school for 7 years and I was born in that hospital 35 years ago.
Thank you for making such great film.I hope it could be broadcast on PBS soon.
THANKS
