Tefilin is one of the most important Mitzvot of the Torah. It has been observed and treasured for thousands of years, right down to the present day. Tefilin consists of two small leather boxes attached to leather straps. The two boxes each contain four sections of the Torah inscribed on parchment. The Tefilin Shel Yad – The Hand Tefilin is placed upon the left arm generally, and the suspended leather strap is wound around the left hand, and around the middle finger of that hand. The Tefilin Shel Rosh – The Head Tefilin is placed upon the head, above the forehead between the eyes. When purchasing a pair of Tefilin, care should be taken to buy it from a dependable source in order to be sure the Tefilin are hand-written by a duly qualified Scribe (Sofer) on special, consecrated parchment. The boxes are produced in a highly specialized process from the leather of a Kosher hide, and are, likewise, specially consecrated for the use of Tefilin. The boxes must be perfectly square. The straps and boxes must be dyed black with a special dye. The head Tefilin has four compartments. Each contains one of the four scrolls upon which one of the four different sections of the Torah relating to Tefilin are inscribed. The hand Tefilin has only one compartment, and contains all these four sections of the Torah inscribed on one scroll. Those not produced in conformity with the specified requirements of Tefilin, may not be used. All of our Tefilin are written and inspected by reputable, qualified Sofrim (Scribes). The finest quality parchments are used. As penmanship of scribes differ, price categories are determined by consistency and exactness of the script. All of our Tefilin are guaranteed to be 100% Kosher. |
